English .... We believe that our English or Language Arts program will enable students to become literate, articulate, empathetic and productive members of society. It fosters precise communication, self-awareness, and an appreciation of language and literature. In addition, it encourages the capacity to think critically, analytically, and creatively, allowing the learner to live in our changing world.

The English/Language Arts curriculum is designed to assure students will:

Demonstrate empathy, maturity, independence and insight in their interactions with literature, other print materials and life;

Increase their sensitivity towards different languages and cultures, and an appreciation of the community in which they live;

Communicate confidently, creatively, and rationally in a variety of appropriate styles and with a high degree of technical correctness;

Develop as motivated and discriminating readers capable of enjoying, understanding and analyzing different types of writing;

Think perceptively about language and comprehend the many ways in which its power can be used;

Collaborate respectfully with others as they listen, speak, read and write.
